Case Study

Case Studies are used in Engineering Students for the 21st Century classes to help students learn why what they will learn is useful. Students construct new knowledge by building upon their prior knowledge- a case study introduces unfamiliar (new) concepts in a framework understood by the students.

  • Engineering Case Studies, Carleton University: Collection of information on case studies in engineering including papers on how to write and how to teach using engineering cases. The site includes a catalog of over 250 cases maintained by the Center for Case Studies in Engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology which provides abstracts for the cases included and which can be searched by subject. Ordering information is provided. Online reviews are available for many of the cases.
  • Ergonomics Case Studies: Case studies available through ErgoWeb describe real life occupational hazards and their ergonomic solutions. Each case study consists of a task description, ergonomic risk factors, administrative or design solutions, comments, and vendor information.
