The calculus car is a pre-programmable remote control (RC) car used to teach mathematics to students ranging from middle school students in algebra 1 to college students in calculus. The heart of this calculus car is the control board. The control board is what interprets the students program and runs the desired commands. While running the program it records the following data: distance vs. time; speed vs. time; and acceleration vs. time. The data is then saved as a .csv file and is easily uploaded into your favorite data analyzing software, for example Microsoft Excel or a more advanced program like MATLAB. Once the data is uploaded the students can then analyze the acquired data by plotting the data. They can use the data to take derivatives or integrals, find the force on the car or determine work done on the car. The goal is for the students to use real data acquired by them and analyze this data using mathematical concepts the students have learned, or are learning.
